After several indonesian students in Melbourne experienced a spiritual awakening in a Bible Camp in 1989, Hendra Iskandar started a Youth Fellowship every Saturday under the leadership of Agus Budiman and Yanto Jaya. This Youth Fellowship was first established in Agus Budiman's house with 12 Indonesian students.
As time went by, Iskandar decided this small Indonesian church to become a charismatic church, which led to the relocation of the church to St. Mark Uniting Church, Chadstone, not long after. It was then named Indonesian Praise Centre. In 1991, the Indonesian Praise Centre moved to Church of Christ building in North Caulfield. Hendra Iskandar acted as the head Pastor, with Haryono Margono as co-Pastor. Indonesian Praise Centre has been affiliated with Church of Christ denomination since May 1992.
After this transition, Hendra Iskandar stepped down from the lead pastor role and was replaced by Haryono Margono. In September 1992, after Haryono graduated from his study, a new panel of counselor and ministry team was formed.
- June 95, Agus Budiman was annointed to become a pastor by Jemaat Kristen Indonesia (JKI) in Los Angeles, USA.
- Dec 95, the Church of Christ building in North Caulfield was handed over to Indonesian Praise Centre.
- The Indonesian Praise Centre is also known as Oikumene Evangelical Charismatic church.
